George Terrat, 79, of Provincetown died unexpectedly Friday, April 11, at Cape End Manor Nursing Home. He had been experiencing failing health for about the last five years.
Born in New Jersey, he was the son of the late George Sr. and Eugene (Tristan) Terrat. He lived in Princeton, N.J., as a child and later graduated from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa.
Mr. Terrat retired in 1991 from his position as vice president at Sanjer Brothers Sign Company located in Parsippany, N.J. For many years he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club in Chester, N.J. Following his retirement he moved from Long Valley, N.J., to Provincetown. He lived in the West End where he enjoyed working in his garden and bed and breakfast, The Garden, at 6 Atwood Ave.
He is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend and partner, Winifred (Emery) Terrat; his five sons, Charles and his wife, Donna, of Hainesville, N.J., Peter and his wife, Ruth, of Reading, Carey and his wife, Nancy, of Hackettstown, N.J., Jacques of Provincetown, and Andrew and his partner, Greg, of Boston; and his grandchildren, Payton, Raleigh, Christopher, Lisa, Elayna and Felicia Terrat. He was the grandfather of the late Melody Terrat, who died in February of 1995, and the brother of the late Lucette Jacobetz, who died last year.
A funeral service was held Monday in the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown.
