Patricia L. Hammond, 86

Patricia L. (Coffin) Hammond, 86, a resident of Wellfleet and formerly of Dracut, died July 9 at University Commons in Worcester. She was the beloved wife of Melville G. Hammond to whom she was married for 66 years.

She was born in Liverpool, England, on May 6, 1922, and was a daughter of the late William Cuthberson and Maud (Frayling) Coffin. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Charles Coffin.

She received her education in Somerville schools and was a graduate of Somerville High School. She received an associate’s degree from Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill.

Mrs. Hammond spent most of her life tending to the needs of her home and family. She also worked outside of the home as an assistant special needs teacher for the Dracut school system.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing and teaching.

She was a member of several churches throughout her life, and was a founding member of Westford Bible Church, the Collinsville Union Church and the Nauset Baptist Church in North Eastham.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hammond is survived by four daughters, Evelyn Vignola and her husband, George, of Worcester, Barbara Dale Martin and her husband, Ronald, of Nashua, Joyce E. Bellefeuille and her husband, Richard, of Dunstable, and Nora P. Anderson and her husband, Bruce, of East Brookfield, Vt.; seven grandchildren, Nathan Vignola, Shawn Martin, Joyce Bachelder, Melody Martin, Lyn Niemi, Jeremy Bellefeuille and Ryan Anderson; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Larose, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Ernest K. Coffin.

Friends may call between 4 and 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery in Dracut. For online condolences and directions, visit dracutfuneralhome.com.
