Lawrence G. Fordyce, 87
Provincetown restaurateur
Lawrence G. Fordyce, 87, of Pompano Beach, Fla., died on July 28 of cancer.
Lawrence was born in Calico, Ark., He served in the Army during WW II and played the trombone with the Army band.
Among his many accomplishments in life, he held a master’s degree and worked for McGraw Hill Publishing Co. in New York City.
In Provincetown he was the co-proprietor of the Landmark Inn & Restaurant for many years. He brought a grand sophistication to the Landmark Inn & Restaurant and ran it with great pride and joy. One could never leave the restaurant without his warm graciousness, his famous kiss and his “Goodnight Sweets.”
He lived by the golden rule and was a dignified man. He enjoyed writing and wrote many short stories as well as book about his family who he loved so much.
He is survived by his lifelong friend, Vincent Quattrochi; his sisters, Ruby Huisman, Audrey Henze and Edna Lehman; and nieces and nephews in the Midwest.
His ashes will be sent to Waterloo, Iowa, and he will be buried with his mother and father, Lydia and Clem Fordyce. A family service will be held in Waterloo Aug. 22.
