David L. Carreiro, 61

Commercial fisherman, firefighter

David L. “Bootsie” Carreiro, 61, of Provincetown, died on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Cape Cod Hospital after an illness.

The son of the late Frank and Mary (Lucas) Carreiro, Mr. Carreiro was born in Fall River. He moved to Provincetown with his family at an early age and attended local schools.

“Bootsie” was a commercial fisherman in Provincetown for the last 30 years, most recently working on the fishing vessel Jersey Princess. He also was a Provincetown firefighter on Engine No. 2, working his way up to the rank of captain.

He is survived by his sons, Joel “Lil Boots” and Che Carreiro, both of Eastham; his daughters, Audra Mayfield and Amy Carreiro, both of Provincetown; a brother, Brian Carreiro, of Provincetown; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, at the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, Harry Kemp Way and Howland Street, Provincetown. A funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Peter the Apostle Church on Prince Street in Provincetown. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 4-7 p.m.
