Yvette Freller, 58

Yvette A. Freller, 58, of Harwich, formerly of Provincetown, died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday morning, Nov. 15.

Born in Provincetown on Dec. 11, 1949, she was the daughter of Ethel (Williams) Roderick and the late Irving Roderick. Mrs. Freller graduated from Provincetown High School class of 1967. While in high school she was an all-around athlete; she played field hockey, basketball and softball. She was very proud of being a member of the PHS basketball team that went on to become state champions during her junior and senior years. After graduating high school she attended UMass at Dartmouth where she studied art. She later earned her master’s degree at the University of Art in Linz, Austria.

It was in Linz in 1974 where she met her future husband, Otto Freller. She and Otto were married on June 13, 1975, in Austria. They returned to Provincetown in 1976, eventually moving to Harwich in 1994.

She enjoyed kayaking and spending time on the local bike trails. She was known as an avid garage and yard sale enthusiast and looked forward to her annual trip to the Brimfield Antique Show. She traveled with her group of lifetime friends, who named themselves the “Traveling Thunderbirds.”

In 2007, as part of her 40th high school reunion, she and a group of former classmates went on a cruise to the eastern Caribbean.

At the time of her death, she was employed as a medical receptionist for Dr. Robert Lytle in Hyannis.

Her family gave her the most pleasure in her life. She was especially proud of Joshua and Evan Hurley, her two grandsons who lived nearby.

In addition to her husband, mother and grandsons, she is survived by her two daughters, Tanya Hurley and Allison Freller, both of Harwich; her twin sister, Yvonne Roderick-Oda of Kaysville, Utah; her paternal grandmother, Mary P. Roderick of Provincetown; her niece, Kara Agresta of Salt Lake City, Utah, and her nephew, Seth Alexander of Broken Arrow, Okla. She will also be missed by her loving in-laws, the Freller family in Hörsching, Austria.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown, at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, followed by burial in St. Peter the Apostle Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a vigil prayer service at 6:30, at Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown. If desired, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Provincetown Rescue Squad, 25 Shank Painter Road, Provincetown, MA 02657, or to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor Brookline, MA 02445-7226 Attn: Contribution Services.
