John Carbone, 82
John Carbone, 82, of North Truro, died on Feb. 21, 2009.
He was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Greenwich Village in the 1940s. He studied dance and theater at the Katherine Dunham School and worked as a waiter at Chumley’s.
John first came to Provincetown in 1954 and worked at Ciro & Sal’s restaurant for more than 30 years. He was always involved in theater and dance on the Outer Cape. He taught Dunham technique dance classes for children and adults at the Provincetown Tennis Club and stage movement for the Provincetown Playhouse from 1958 through 1964. John also served as artistic advisor to Provincetown Danceworks, a modern dance company directed by June Finch, from 1993-2006.
John was a member of a poetry group for seniors and was a lover of all the arts. He was a volunteer at the Truro Public Library and most recently at the Truro Council on Aging, where he created his Tuesday afternoon film series. His warm personality, quick wit and sense of humor endeared him to all.
John is pre-deceased by his partner of many years, Daniel Jahn. He is survived by a sister, Marie Contello, of Walton, N.Y., many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
