Practice heats up spring season
By Kevin Mullaney Banner Correspondent
The Provincetown spring season opens next Tuesday with all three teams — baseball, softball and girls tennis traveling to Cape Tech in Brewster, There is no boys tennis team this year.
The softball team’s numbers are way up, with 18 kids and many returning players. It’s a young team, however. Holly Rose, the only senior, is the team captain. Emma Silva, the only junior, is assistant captain. “We’re probably the youngest team in the state,” said Michael Manley. Manley coached the girls basketball team the last two years. This is his first season coaching softball.
The numbers are way down in baseball for the second year. One senior, two juniors, two sophomores, with a total of 10 players at this point.
“We’re on the edge of being able to complete the season,” said coach John White. White, the athletic director now, will be joined by Marty Menangas. The two coached baseball together for many years until a few years ago, and are now back holding the reins.
